On January 12, 2010 the nation of Haiti was rocked by a catastrophic earthquake. In a matter of just a few seconds hundreds of thousands of people were injured or killed, and an estimated 2 million people were left without homes, forced to survive beneath whatever flimsy shelter they could devise.
A number of SUNTRAIL's friends and customers were in Haiti at the time working with an NGO in the village of Titanyen, located on the outskirt's of Haiti's now devastated capital of Port-au-Prince. Over the next few hours and days, while aftershocks continued to rock the nation, they did all that they could to help alleviate the incredible suffering they saw all around them. Even before they were safely evacuated back to Canada they began to plan for an eventual return to Haiti to help with the relief efforts; and out of this resolve "The Tent Project Haiti" was born.
In conjunction with The Tent Project Haiti and in co-operation with Eureka! Canada / Johnson Outdoors, SUNTRAIL was able to secure a supply of Eureka Bonavista 100 and Sphinx tents (regularly retailing for over $500) that were made available for purchase for only $219.95 (plus applicable taxes). SUNTRAIL and Eureka eliminated all profits so the tents could be purchased at the lowest cost possible.
A number of SUNTRAIL staff pose with Isabel Stigge, co-ordinator of The Tent
Project Haiti, beside a pile of over 50 tents and tarps destined to be loaded
into a container and shipped to Haiti for distribution.
The Tent Project Haiti is a great opportunity for individuals, families, service clubs, youth groups, school classes and other groups to make a real difference in people's lives. SUNTRAIL was proud to support the effort as a local sponsor, and we thank everyone for their thoughtful and generous response in time of need.
